Ms. Petrul has worked as a Registered Nurse since 1975. In her twenty years at MPRO, she has worked for the Medicare, Medicaid, and private review programs. Ms. Petrul serves as MPRO’s Director of Review Services where she is responsible for ensuring MPRO’s compliance with federal and state regulations related to medical review activities. She also provides education and training to the nurse review, coders, and medical records staff. She is an expert resource on daily review activities and monitoring activities and oversees several committees including: URAC re-credentialing, staff education, physician credentialing, various quality improvement activities (internal and external), medical records management, and confidentiality/HIPAA compliance issues.
Additionally, Ms. Petrul works with MPRO’s review staff to improve communication among beneficiaries and providers. She has also been actively involved in sanction activities and EMTALA cases and meetings. Ms. Petrul currently works with the state government review team overseeing the pre-certification (PACER) program audits, long term care exceptions and retrospective review, and the statewide utilization review program. She also works closely with the Michigan Department of Community Health on assuring that MPRO is compliant with Medicaid policies and procedures.
Prior to joining MPRO, Ms. Petrul worked at a variety of Detroit-area hospitals. She was a nurse in the intensive care units of Botsford General Hospital and Providence Hospital. She then worked at Mt. Carmel General Hospital on their renal unit and transplant unit. Lastly, she worked for Greenfield Health Systems, a subsidiary of Henry Ford Hospital in their renal dialysis unit. Ms. Petrul has a degree from Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan, and is a Registered Nurse.
