International Recognition for Guidelines Applied in Practice (GAP) Initiatives
Led by the American College of Cardiology, and in partnership with MPRO, the Greater Detroit Area Health Council, the Greater Flint Health Coalition, 33 Michigan hospitals and driven by dedicated physicians and nurses, the GAP initiative has positively impacted the quality of health care provided to patients in Michigan and across the nation.
As a result of the internationally recognized and replicated GAP initiative, 26 percent fewer patients died in the first year after their heart attack, when hospitals used evidence-based quality improvement initiatives to improve patient care.
In addition to being published extensively in peer reviewed journals, MPRO's collaboration with the American College of Cardiology on the GAP projects have been replicated both nationally and internationally. The AMI GAP project has been replicated in Virginia, Montana, Puerto Rico, and internationally in Italy and Australia. Additionally, MPRO's Heart Failure GAP project has had its methodology replicated in Indiana, Illinois and New Jersey.
